Blog Tour & Review: Pretty Reckless

Pretty Reckless, an all-new standalone high school, bully romance from USA Today bestselling author L.J. Shen, is available now!

We were supposed to be best friends
But turned out to be worst enemies…
Penn
They say revenge is a dish best served cold.
I’d had four years to stew on what Daria Followhill did to me, and now my heart is completely iced.
I took her first kiss.
She took the only thing I loved.
I was poor.
She was rich.
The good thing about circumstances? They can change. Fast.
Now, I’m her parents’ latest shiny project.
Her housemate. Her tormentor. The captain of the rival football team she hates so much.
Yeah, baby girl, say it—I’m your foster brother.
There’s a price to pay for ruining the only good thing in my life, and she’s about to shell out some serious tears.
Daria Followhill thinks she is THE queen. I’m about to prove to her that she’s nothing but a spoiled princess.
Daria
Everyone loves a good-old, unapologetic punk.
But being a bitch? Oh, you get slammed for every snarky comment, cynical eye roll, and foot you put in your adversaries’ way.
The thing about stiletto heels is that they make a hell of a dent when you walk all over the people who try to hurt you.
In Penn Scully’s case, I pierced his heart until he bled out, then left it in a trash can on a bright summer day.
Four years ago, he asked me to save all of my firsts for him.
Now he lives across the hall, and there’s nothing I want more than to be his last everything.
His parting words when he gave me his heart were that nothing in this world is free.
Now? Now he is making me pay.

Excerpt:

“I don’t want you transferring into my school,” I hiss out. Melody would gladly file a transfer request, and Principal Prichard would salivate over the chance to snatch him up for our football team.
“That won’t be a problem. You guys suck so much ass, you have shit-breath.”
“Still smells better than poverty. You’re poor, right? Your sister was just bullshitting about being rich.”
When someone hits me with a stick, I run over them with a tank. I’m so mean to him I want to throw up. I hate this part of being me. The striking harder at all costs part.
“Just to make things clear.” I put the brush down, batting my lashes. “You’re not my step-sibling, foster brother, or a part of the family. You’re a stray dog. Last of the litter, most unlikely to be adopted, and a charity case.”
Penn takes a step toward me, and my heart is fighting its way out of my ribcage. The closer he gets, the more I realize that my heart might succeed. Penn’s eyes remind me of a snake’s. Mesmerizing, but inhuman altogether. They weren’t like that before.
His scent messes with my head. I want to reach out and caress his face. Kiss his wounds better. Beg for forgiveness. Curse him. Push him away. Cry on his shoulder for what we’ve done. For how it ended. For what we became afterwards, because I’m full of crap and he is totally empty.
We ruined ourselves the day of our first kiss.
Penn looks down at me. Time stops. It feels like the world is losing gravity, falling into a bottomless depth in space when he clasps my chin with his thumb and finger, lifting my head up. I can’t breathe. I’m not sure I want to, either. My towel drops to the floor with a thud, even though I secured it over my chest. I realize that he tugged at it intentionally. I’m naked. My body, my soul, my heart. All my walls are down. Somewhere in my head, a red alarm blasts and my inhibitions are getting armed, ready to fight back. I’m trying to decode his expression. He is amused, irritated, and…playful? The mixture of emotions doesn’t make any sense.
“Mess with me, Followhill, and I will ruin you.”
“Not if I ruin you first.”

Oh my Marx! Where do I even begin with Pretty Reckless?

Daria Followhill is Queen Bee of All Saints High. She owns the school. She will walk all over anyone and everyone in her stilettos and not even think twice about it. Penn is from the wrong side of the tracks. Star football player for the rivaling team- and now living across the hall from Daria. She took the only thing he loved away, and now he's come to collect. Who will come out on top?

I loved every crazy second of this book. The teenage angst. The backstabbing, the mean girls, the banter. Every. Single. Thing. This book was an enemies to lovers, foster brother, slow burn, wrong side of the tracks, bad boy romance. The angst, and drama at an all time high. We finally get a look into the totholes lives- the second generation of hotholes- and what has become of their parents whom we fell in love with. And the totholes? They are giving their parents a run for their money. And as much as I didn't think I would like Daria- I was proven so very wrong. I felt for her. Yeah, she was the Queen Bee, but there was so much more to her. And of course, I fell for Penn- hard. But I haven't met an a-hole that LJ has written yet that I didn't love. I cannot wait to read more of the totholes- and fall in love all over again and again with these characters that have my heart completely. If you love angst and teen drama, if you love slow burn, and bad boys, if you love aholes and forbidden romances then you need to read this book. Think of the hotholes- 2.0 versions. 5 oh my Marx⭐ out of 5⭐.

Book Tag: April Wrap Up

Hi everyone!!
Can you believe it is already May?! How was your April in books?
I read a total of 13 books this month bringing my total reading challenge up to 35 books out of the 20 I set for my goal! Yay!

To start of the month of April I read Beautifully Brutal by Dani Rene which was book 1 in the Cavalieri Della Morte series. I thought a series with different authors doing each book was intruiging and wanted to get in on it. This was the first book of Dani's that I read, and the story was a older man, younger woman who happens to be the boss's daughter. 3⭐ out of 5⭐  Review

Vow of Obedience was the first book I have read of Brianna Hale's. It was set in the Cavalieri Della Morte world. It was fast paced, and a little bit dark. 4⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

This was a quick, fast paced read, and a perfect second chance novel. It was cute, sweet, with a hint of drama. 4.5⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

It was dark, twisted and oh so good. It is book 2 in the Dare series (you need to Read I Dare You first!) & is in Cole & Deke's POV. If you like Dark YA romance reads then you need to read these books! 5⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

Superstar was a fun, light, read. It had me swooning at times, and tearing up at others. I loved Finn and Jennifer together. This was the first book I have read of Vicky's, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next! 4⭐ out of 5⭐ Review

Maxon and Izzy's story is a second chance slow burn romance filled with angst and tension. Both drawn to the other, but also hurting. Can Maxon and Izzy mend the pieces of each other and their hearts or will one of them be left shattered again?  4⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

This book is an enemies to lovers, best friends girl, romance. It was emotional, angsty, and slow-burn romance. Hunter & Lennon who had been pushing each other away come together in their grief, while still trying to keep boundaries in place. I cannot wait for Baby Yours! 5⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

When I read this blurb, I had wanted to dive immediately into this book. BDSM, suspense, and more? What's not to love? I had a hard time getting into & connecting with the characters, it being in third person. 3⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

This is the first book I read by Michalea Smeltzer, and let me say I was def not disappointed. The cover was hot & fun, the tagline drew you in, and so did the blurb. It was relatable, funny, and a great read. If you are looking for your next RomCom, then this is it! 4.5⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

It's a Hollywood romance book like no other. There is more to it then just the glitz and glamour and being swept off your feet with wealth and material items. Lucas and Mila were more than just Hollywood's 'it' couple. They were real. There is a lot of back and forth from the past to present of their relationship- and you got to see the good, the bad, and even down right dirty of it all. What goes on behind closed doors. It was raw, and emotional, dealing with grief, and depression along side trying to find out what really happened. If you want to read about a Hollywood romance that's more than just the glamorous lifestyle & filled with emotion, then you need to pick up this book! 4.5 ⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

Dark of Night picks up right where Dead of Night leaves off. I absolutely love this world by Emily Goodwin! Besides saving the town- and the world, Callie and Lucas also needs to fight for each other. And I cannot wait for the next book. These books- these stories are phenomenal, and I love the world filled with magic, vampires and a little bit of mayhem. I love these characters, and these books and am dying for the next one in the series! 5⭐ out of 5⭐. Review

This cover is gorgeous and the blurb intrigued me. I just had to get my hands on it. I had to know how Willow's story played out. She went from a whirlwind marriage to all of a sudden being kidnapped, her captors trying to break her spirit to prepare her for what was to come. This book was thrilling and suspenseful and grabs your attention, and keeping you on your toes. You will be turning pages trying to find out the answers to so many questions and won't want to put this book down.

Review: Bad Saint

Title: Bad Saint
Series: All the Pretty Things trilogy
Author: Monica James
Release Date: May 6

I was kidnapped on my honeymoon by three masked men.

Blindfolded.
Bound.
Destination unknown.

I was told to stay silent and abide by their rules. But they didn’t realize I wasn’t a victim…not anymore.

The open sea was my backdrop for nine torturous days. During that time, glimmers of my fate were revealed by a man with the mysterious chartreuse-colored eyes. He should have scared me, but he didn’t.

He intrigued me. And I intrigued him.

He punished me when I didn’t listen, which was every single day. But beneath his cruelty, I sensed he was guarding a grave secret.

I was sold.
And in a game of poker, no less.

My buyer? A Russian mobster who likes to collect pretty things. Now that I know the truth, I only have one choice.

Sink or swim.

And when one fateful night presents me the opportunity, I take it. I just never anticipated my actions would leave me shipwrecked with my kidnapper.

He needs me alive. I want him dead.

But as days turn into weeks, one thing becomes clear—I should hate him…but I don’t.

My name is Willow.
His name is Saint.

Ironic, isn’t it? He bears a name that denotes nothing but holiness yet delivers nothing but hell. However, if this is hell on earth…God, save my soul.

Willow is on her honeymoon with her husband when she is kidnapped, blindfolded and bound on a yacht. She has no idea where they are heading. She was told to follow their rules, but Willow fought them at every turn. Every time they tried to break her she proved how reselliant she was. She would do anything to get off the boat and away from the end destination... A Russian mobster her won her in a game of poker - even if it means being shipped wrecked and stranded on a deserted island. One of the men that kidnapped her, intrigued her most of all - Saint. He needs her alive, but she wants him dead. But in the end there is only one way that they will survive and that is working together- but will working with Saint cost Willow her freedom?
This cover is gorgeous and the blurb intrigued me. I just had to get my hands on it. I had to know how Willow's story played out. She went from a whirlwind marriage to all of a sudden being kidnapped, her captors trying to break her spirit to prepare her for what was to come. They didn't expect her to fight back every chance she got. This book was thrilling and suspenseful and grabs your attention, and keeping you on your toes. You will be turning pages trying to find out the answers to so many questions including learning Saint's secrets, and why Willow was kidnapped. You won't want to put this book down.
