Review: The Fae King's Prize

Title: The Fae King's Prize

Series: From Dawn and Dusk

Author: Jamie Schlosser

Release Date: April 8

Blurb

When I wake up at a female auction in a world I don’t recognize, all I can think about is getting back home to Texas. I want absolutely nothing to do with a realm called Valora, magic, faeries, or being sold to the highest bidder.

But the Day Realm king has other plans.

Zander says I’m his fated mate. I don’t believe him. That doesn’t stop him from tricking me into marrying him, though. It doesn’t matter if I argue or run—he won’t let me go.

I should hate him. Instead, I find myself ridiculously attracted to the stubborn, broody man. Sometimes he terrifies me, so I don’t know why his rare smiles give me warm tingles or why his arms make me feel safe.

Everything about Valora is confusing, but after just a short time here, I realize something—this place is full of dangers that are way more frightening than my new husband, and staying by his side just might be my only option.

Oh wow, where do I start with this book?!

It follows Maelyn. She was taken from Earth, to be auctioned of in a world she doesn't recognize, or know. A world filled with magic and Faeries. And one of the Faeries at the auction is Zander, who claims to be Mae's fated mate. Something Mae doesn't believe. But that doesn't stop Zander from tricking her to marry him. But with the dangers of Valora, staying beside her frightening new husband might be her only option to staying alive.

I have enjoyed this series immensely and couldn't wait to dive into this story, with Zander the brooding king from the Day Realm. He has been through so much, and was one of my favorites from the other stories, I couldn't wait to learn more about him. He was broken, which is one of my favorite traits in fictional men (don't ask, but I love the ones who have tragic back stories. The ones who are broken or hurting). He was cursed as a child, to be blind until he finds his mate. Then his father cursed him again, when he tried to inflict a power onto him. He's a king who suffered a great deal growing up. His people don't trust him. And there are woman- human and fae alike- being trafficked throughout his kingdom. That's where he meets Maelyn for the first time.

Maelyn was taken from home and thrust into a world she doesn't understand. She become Sander's prize at an auction. He saves her from being sold off, but tricks her to marry him, when all she wants is to go back home- to her friends, family, and life she has. She doesn't want to stay in the foreign world, with foreign beings- even if Zander claims they are mates. But she can't deny she feels something for the brooding and moody king. But is what she feels enough to get her to stay? Or will her departure result in the king going mad, and the fall of the Day Realm?

I loved this story, and the characters. Mae was kind, and compassionate and brought characteristics with her that would greatly help out Zander and his people. She was the light to his darkness. Her soul is untouched, innocent and light. Zanders was darkened with lies, sins and tarnished with his curse and past. They perfectly contrasted each other.  The story had romance, adventure, & more. Perfect for those who are looking for a new Fae or paranormal romance to fall into. 5 ⭐ out of 5 ⭐.

Review: Crave

Title: Crave

Series: Crave series

Author: Tracy Wolff

Release Date: April 2020

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.

Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.

Which could spell death for us all.

Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally—as the bait.

Gah. So I just finished Crave. Like I mean I have been sitting here pouting for five minutes because the book is over, and if I order book 2 right now I won't get in until Monday May 3rd (with my "prime 2 day shipping it takes a week) type pouting BUT I NEED IT. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

If you didn't already know, I have a love-hare relationship with cliffhangers. Doesn't matter if it's shoes, movies, or books. The frustrate the hell outta me... But I love them anyways. And this book is no different.

But that's besides the point. I'm currently trying to form a coherent thought about crave. I am. But I'm still pouting.

After an accident, Grace's whole world is flipped upside down, and has her stepping foot into a private Alaskan boarding school that she will now call home for the next for seeable future. But things are definitely not as they seem. From gorgeous, but arrogant guys who try to get her to leave one second and bring a new meaning to ghosting, to hot, goofy guys who can carry all of Grace's belongings up multiple flight of stairs without so much a breaking a sweat. But that's not the only thing that seems off. Grace has no idea what she steps into the middle of, but all of a sudden Grace is more vulnerable then she has ever been.

When they say high school bites, they weren't joking around. Can Grace survive, or will her being in Alaska spell death for everyone involved?

I seriously loved this book. It brought on a serious case of nostalgia. The angsty teenage vampire romance. I am normally not a huge fan of insta-love and prefer a love triangle or enemies to lovers but I did enjoy this book. The story takes place in a matter of weeks. At times it may have been cheesy (in a good way) & had some "dad jokes" thrown in (seriously, I love those!), But it made me swoon. I fell in love with Jaxon. For everything he has been through. My heart goes out to him, the broken bad boy. The vampire who has witnessed too much already in his short life.

My heart also went out to Grace. A teenage girl who had her world she knew ripped away from her and instead has to adjust to a world she knew nothing about.

The insta-love may have had me rolling my eyes, but I still enjoyed this book, and I cannot wait to read the next one, and see what happens next to Jaxon, Grace and everyone else at Katmere Academy. Seriously. I don't wanna wait a week for the next book to get here in the mail. That's too long. 😩😩 I need more of Jaxon & Grace today! It was fun, cheesy, filled with magic, love, and danger, and I want more. 4.5⭐ out of 5⭐.

Review: Dear Love, I Hate You

Title: Dear Love, I Hate You

Series: Easton Boys

Author: Eliah Greenwood

Release Date: March 12

It all started with an anonymous letter.

He wasn’t supposed to find it—no one was. And he definitely wasn’t supposed to answer it.

We end up talking through letters and sticky notes in a book. One sticky note. Two sticky notes. Ten sticky notes. All baring our darkest, deepest secrets.

It’s all fun and games until I find out who my pen pal is...

Xavier Emery. King of my basketball-obsessed town, my childhood bully, and the guy I am in grave danger of falling in love with.

But the rules were clear: we can never know who we’re talking to, and the confessions can never, ever get out. Seriously. It would destroy lives.

Fine by me. Even if Mr. Popular does find out his confidant is little old me, it’s not like he’d ever love me back…

Right?

Oh my goodness. Where do I begin with this book?!

So Aveena writes a letter that no one was suppose to see. But after a turn of events someone does see it. And worse they respond. Which starts a chain reaction, and secret pen pals, leaving notes for each other in the books of the library. What began as harmless ends up them spilling their secrets to each other- complete strangers who are choosing anonymity instead of revealing themselves. What started as notes passed back and forth, turns into texts to one another. They were never suppose to find out who each other were... Until Aveena does.

Xavier is the captain of the basketball team. Tall, handsome, popular, and the nicest guy to everyone. Everyone except Aveena. She never understood why. But he couldn't possibly be the one who is leaving notes for Aveena. Quiet, shy, invisible Aveena.

It seems that both of them are going through more then those around them know. The secrets they share can never get out, because it may ruin lives. But that's not the only danger... Aveena may be falling for her pen pal...

Seriously. I was in a bit of a book funk, not knowing what to read next, so I downloaded this book from KU in hopes to find something. And boy did I ever. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Enemies to lovers? (Which we all know is one of my favorites) Check.

Secret pen pals? Check

Teenage drama? Check

And town wide scandal! Check.

This book seemed to have it all. There was banter, secrets, drama, and angst. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to start this book last night, because I stayed up all night reading it. I got only an hour of sleep before my daughter woke me up for the day. And I'm not even sorry, nor do I regret it.

The bullying happened when they were kids- Aveena never had any clue why he did what he did, and never got a chance to ask him because he transfered schools. But now he's back, and doesn't seem to remember who she is.

I loved Aveena, and how she was trying to find herself. How she was trying to navigate her senior year. Going from being invisible to finally being seen.

Xavier was your typical popular athlete- or so Aveena thought. This year he seemed off, and with the confessions he confided into his own pal, it was no wonder why. But there was a side of him that Aveena never knew about.

I honestly couldn't put this book down. There may have been a couple scenes that could have been improved on, and some of the characters could have been developed a little bit more, but over all it was a solid read that I can't get off my mind. So if you enjoy teenage drama you definitely need this book. 4 angsty teenage ⭐ out of 5⭐.

Review: Her String Of Pearls

Title: Her String Of Pearls

Series: Iron Elite

Author: Ella Burns

Release Date: March 29th

Blurb:

I was never a good person, never claimed to be.

But at least up until that fateful day twelve years ago, the only aches I left were broken hearts and empty wallets.

One wrong decision, one wrong con, and it all came crumbling down.

Those five men who turned me from a badass con-woman into a broken victim?

They’ll never see me coming.

With the help of Killian, another survivor of the Iron Elite, will I be able to finally get my revenge, or is my past the one thing holding me back?

If you’re looking for a tale of revenge in the underground world of poles and dancers, then pick up Her String of Pearls today!

Her String of Pearls is book one in the Iron Elite Series and is a MF romance and contains triggers and content not suitable for under 18. The Iron Elite series will be dark, standalone romance set in the same world.

Her String of Pearls follows Echo and her search of revenge against the Iron Elite.
Echo was a con woman, set on using her body and skills to turn tricks and make cash. Until she found the wrong guys to mess with.
Neil, Peter, Tanner, Sergio and James broke Echo, and left her for dead. But not only did she survive, she came back stronger and set on Vengeance and taking down the Iron Elite.
But with Killian on her side, can she finally seek her revenge, or will her past hold her back?
This book was dark- and had triggers of rape, assult, and violence. If those things don't bother you, then dive on in to the underground world of the Iron Elite.
Although this wasn't my favorite dark romance and at times had me a bit confused (which is probably a me thing), I did enjoy the story for what it was. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was dark, and gritty.
I enjoyed this book. I loved the fact that Echo was seeking her revenge. She may have been broken by the five men, but she didn't let that hold her back and instead survived and came back stronger. She had no shame, and did what she always loved, getting back into the pole, and being a stripper.
That being said, I wasn't blown away, or wowed. I'm content with the story but not amazed. It was good, but I didn't completely fall in love with the characters or was really left wanting more.
That being said, just because I didn't thoroughly love this book doesn't mean you won't. It could have just been me. Overall the book was good, and I did enjoy it.
3.5 dark ⭐ out of 5⭐.
