Release Blitz: Unsupervised

UNSUPERVISED
By S.M. Shade
Release Date: May 7

My decision to run from my comfortable upper-class life was an impulsive one, but I’m determined not to regret it. It’s true I have no car, have already been fired from my first job, and can’t cook without starting a fire, but I can do this. Anything is better than the life I was raised to lead as some successful man’s arm candy.

I’m adjusting to my new circumstances living with three roommates on Violent Circle, a neighborhood known for being eccentric at best and an insanity filled edible trip any other day. On my own for the first time, I am quickly realizing there’s a lot I need to learn, so signing up for the adulting club that teaches life skills at college seems like the perfect solution.

That is, until I walk into the first meeting and come face to face with my gorgeous economics teacher. Screw learning how to change a tire or file your taxes.

There are much more adult things I want this man to teach me.

REVIEW:

So it has been no secret that I have been in a reading slump since last September. Being quarantined hasn't been any help at all either. But, getting away from the world and immersed into a book has been just what I needed. Especially a rom-com.
Kelly has traded in her upper-class life, for that of student debt, bills, and rent. Even though she has no job, no money, no car, and may not know how to cook without starting a fire, she is refusing to let that stop her from finding the life that she wants, instead of one that has been arranged for her.
As she is adjusting to her new less than posh life with roommates, in Violent Circle, a place known for being eccentric and insane, she realizes there is a lot she still needs to learn about being on her own, and signs up for an adulting club at her college. But when she comes face to face with the hot economics teacher, learning how to change a tire or file taxes is the last thing she wants him to teach her.
Slumming it is the spin off series to the Violent Circle series. Unsupervised is the first novel, following Kelly, Trey's younger sister, and her following her big brother's foot steps and moving out from under her parents supervision. Young, wild and now free, Kelly is living with three roommates who have taken her into their group, and hilarity and corruption ensues.
Kelly is just learning how to stand on her own, and up for herself. When she is fired from her first job, just starting college, and now car-less the last thing she needs is boy trouble. But when a older teacher catches her eye, she can't get him off her mind.
Layton is teaching Economics at the local college. He is looking for something new. And when a student asks a bizarre introductory question, she leaves a lasting impression on him. But she is his student. And if anything transpired, he would loose his job. So why can't he get her out of his head?
This book has been the first book I have read in one day in a long time. It brought the funny, and even had it's sweet moments. Kelly was such a relatable character. If you are looking for a book that will make you LOL, and swoon, then grab your copy of Unsupervised. 5 stumbling through adulthood ⭐'s out of 5⭐.

EXCERPT

“We needed coffee,” I remark, patting myself on the back at how even my voice comes out when my insides are practically vibrating. I lean back against the wall and my shoulder flips a switch.
A loud, grating, snarling sound startles me, and my arm jerks like I’m trying to fend off a barrage of arrows. All that’s missing is a shield. Although, Mr. Aldrich is the one who really needs the shield. It seems to happen in slow motion, as I’ve noticed most mortifying moments have a tendency to do. My iced coffee flies out of my hand and all I can do is watch in horror as it slams into Mr. Aldrich’s chest. It explodes across his shirt and up into his face in a spectacular fashion.
Panic is a wild animal racing through me. What do I do? The loud growling noise drowns out some of my babble when I apologize while still looking around frantically for the source of the clamor.
Owen reaches over and flips a switch behind me, and the noise stops, just as I realize what it was.
“I’m so sorry! It…startled me. I didn’t know what it was. We’ve never had one of those…” Shit. Anxiety has stolen my word retrieving ability again. “One of those angry sinks.”
As soon as the words leave my mouth, there’s a split second of silence. Then laughter. Even Mr. Aldrich—who still has coffee dripping from one eyebrow—can’t help but chuckle.
Still desperate to correct my mistake, I grab a roll of paper towels, tear off a wad and start trying to clean his shirt. “I’m so sorry,” I repeat. “I’ll pay the dry cleaning bill.”
“It’s okay, Ms. Bryant. It’s not a big deal.”
He steps back, trying to get away from my crazy ass as I dab at his clothes. The coffee has dripped down over his waistband and onto his pants. Without a thought in my head, I follow it with the paper towels, until Owen tugs me back by my arm.
“Kel, pretty sure that can get you into trouble.”
Oh god. I was rubbing his crotch. In front of everyone. “Oh!” I drop the towels and step back. “I’m sorry! I wasn’t trying to touch your…” My hand waves at his crotch. “Inappropriate section.”
I regret every decision I’ve ever made in my life that has led to this moment.

I pick up a glass paperweight and throw it at his head, cussing when I miss him by a mile. Damn drunk aim. I would have been spot-on if I was sober.

Taking a step back from his desk, I watch as his eyes darken, his jaw sharpens, and his chest bows. He reaches out, grabbing the netting on my dress, and yanks me forward until my chest bumps his. “You’re mine,” he growls in my face.

I tremble as the meaning of his words sink in to my foggy brain.

"The contract means I own every inch of you now.”

Excerpt:

“Well, isn’t this the most delicious surprise.”
My head confirmed what my eyes were showing me, but my stubborn heart still refused to believe. Jamie was back from Ireland? Why hadn’t Ever told me? Neither of those answers seemed to matter as much as why Jamie was back.
The short sleeves of the button up he wore were rolled and bunched at the shoulders, displaying the muscles he’d grown since I’d last seen him four years ago. The white cotton only pronounced his tanned skin. He’d left the buttons undone, allowing anyone who laid eyes on him to see his hard chest and defined abs…and the many tattoos that covered them. Most of them were angry and aggressive, almost scary as if he were showing off his demons for anyone to see. Recalling my sweet Jamie from long ago, and what happened the last time I’d seen him, I knew I was responsible for every one of them.
Gone was the gentle boy next door with a full mop of hair, a lanky body, and an easy smile. This boy standing before me was darker, edgier…more tragic to my lonely, fragile heart. Was that yearning burning in the pit of my stomach or fear of the unknown? Because I didn’t know this Jamie, and judging by the wicked gleam in his eyes as he flashed that mocking grin, I didn’t want to know.
“What the hell are you doing back here?”
“Is that any way to greet your first love? I got to say”—his gaze slowly traced every dip and curve of my body—“I love how well you’ve grown up, Bette.”
“First love?” I scoffed, even though it felt like he’d stolen my breath. “You were hardly that.”
“Then what was I?” he challenged, backing me against the opposite wall. “I’m breathless to hear more of your lies.”
“You were nothing.”
He flashed me that sad, beautiful smile I hadn’t realized I’d missed so much. I stood perfectly still as his wolfish gaze ate me up. As close as he stood now, he wouldn’t miss a single fucking flaw. There were many, but no one dared looked close enough to see. I might as well have been Medusa. As he ran his gaze over me, I took the time to study him as well, noting the silver bar piercing his right brow and the small diamond in his right nostril. I could have sworn I’d even glimpse a flash of metal piercing his nipples. Jamie had taken all that sinful deliciousness he naturally possessed and multiplied it by ten thousand. As if the world didn’t already have enough injustices.
“You're so beautiful. Did it hurt?” He kept his gaze on me as he turned his head and blew out smoke.
“Did what hurt?” I could feel the heat from Jamie’s cigarette when he defiantly brushed his thumb across my bottom lip. To Jamie’s knowledge, I belonged to his cousin now, but he clearly didn’t give a damn.
“When you fell from heaven, Satan.”
I slapped his hand away while telling myself to get a grip. Jamie might have surprised me, but he was nothing I couldn’t handle. “Get lost, Jameson.”
Tapping the end of his cigarette, he sprinkled ash onto my designer blouse. A piece of the flame had fallen, burning through the sheer material, scorching my skin. Before now, I’d never thought Jamie capable of hurting me. The truth was now so blatantly blazed into our history that it could never be unwritten.
Without warning, he pressed closer until I could see nothing but the angry blackness of his eyes. “I’m afraid I’m not going anywhere. By the time I’m done with you, Barbette Montgomery, you’ll be crawling back to me… but I doubt I’ll want my cousin’s sloppy thirds.”
“I wouldn’t hold your breath.” I wasted little time pushing him away. Tragically, the moment my hand connected with his warm skin, the electricity threatening to make my broken heart beat again became too obvious to ignore. I tried to run from it, but some inexplicable need to seal our fate had me spinning on my heel to face him again. “Better yet, Jameson, do us both the favor, won’t you?”

Célian Laurent.
Manhattan royalty.
Notorious playboy.
Heir to a media empire.
…And my new boss.
I could have impressed him, if not for last month’s unforgettable one-night stand.
I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory—namely, his wallet.
Now he’s staring me down like I’m the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I’m supposed to take it.
But the thing about being Judith “Jude” Humphry is I have nothing to lose.
Brooklyn girl.
Infamously quirky.
Heir to a stack of medical bills and a tattered couch.
When he looks at me from across the room, I see the glint in his eyes, and that makes us rivals.
He knows it.
So do I.
Every day in the newsroom is a battle.
Every night in his bed, war.
But it’s my heart at stake, and I fear I’ll be raising the white flag.

Excerpt:

He had an American accent. Not French. American.Smooth. Familiar. Ordinary. He fired out sentences at the speed of light. I heard him, but I couldn’t listen. Shock gripped my body as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. My dirty one-night stand was my boss. My lying, American boss. And now I had to deal with that—hopefully for a very long time, because I desperately needed this job.
Someone snapped their fingers, and my gaze shot from Célian’s face to Grayson.
His forehead had crumpled into a frown. “You look like you’re trying hard not to cry or having a really intense orgasm. I’m hoping for you that it’s the latter and some kind of a weird-slash-awesome condition. You okay?”
I nodded, scraping up a smile. “Sorry. Zero orgasms happening under this dress. I just zoned out for a second.”Lies. I was about to orgasm just remembering how good Célianhad felt parting my thighs with his big, callused hands and dipping his tongue into my slit.
Then words stopped streaming down on everyone’s heads like a scalding shower, and I realized that indeed there was something worse than hearing Célianspeak in his perfect American English. And that was not hearing him speak at all. Because now the icicles were pointed at me like a cocked gun.
I glanced up to meet his gaze. He stared at me for exactly one second before his focus snapped to Grayson. “Am I understood, Gregory?” he asked.
Gregory?
“Crystal clear, sir,” Grayson bowed, his voice trembling at the edges.
Célian jerked his chin toward me. “Your cover girl material is going downhill.”
God. Damn. Bastard.
He recognized me, and I knew it. His eyes had kindled, melting the ice and growing darker the minute our gazes mingled. He remembered, and maybe it killed him that I was here in the same way it buried me.
I want my iPod back, my gaze told him. I had over three thousand songs on that thing, and they were all too good to be wasted on that jerk.
“Jude Humphry. Junior reporter. It’s her first day,” Grayson highlighted, almost pleadingly. He shifted in my direction, as if he might need to physically protect me from the sharp-tongued, suited monster.
I suppressed a smile when I realized I’d told Célianmy last name was Spears. Well, he certainly wasn’t a Timberlake. He was a Laurent. An American monarch through and through. A billionaire, a powerful force, and judging by our one and only encounter—a raging playboy.
This man was inside you, I internally shrieked. And not just once. His cock was buried so deep in you, you screamed. You can still taste the salty, earthy flavor of his cum.You know he has a freckle on his lower back. You know what sound he makes when he empties inside a woman.
I internally thanked my mind for ruining my panties in public, and nodded. “Pleasure to meet you, sir.” I offered him my hand, my face flushing with embarrassment at my choice of words.
Everyone was looking at us, and there were at least fifty people in the room. Célian—if that was even his name—ignored my outreached hand. Instead, he turned his face to the man beside him. “Mathias, any other words of wisdom?”
Mathias? Wasn’t that his father? Just how cold was the man with the icy blue eyes?
“I think you touched everything,” said the big boss—and he did have a heavy French accent, so at least the lie had a seed. Mathias stared at me placidly, like he could read the secret his son and I shared on my face.
Célian spun toward me, uncuffing his cufflinks and rolling his sleeves up his veiny forearms. “Accounting can go back to their unfortunate line of work. Couture is excused from this meeting—though not forgiven for their horrid blog. Miss Humphry?” He snapped his fingers impatiently.
He was already waltzing down the narrow hallway, knowing I’d chase him like a puppy, and no doubt taking pleasure in that fact.
“I have a bone to pick with you.”
Bone, boner—same difference, right?
I shot Grayson a please-save-my-butt look. His eyes said, I would but I still have a life to live.
I followed Célian down the hall, my Chucks slapping the floor in a hurry. He sliced through the throng of accountants, then stopped at a corner office, opened the door, barked “Out!” to the man inside, and tilted his head for me to go in. I did. He closed the door, and it was just the two of us.
Two feet of empty space between us.
