Review: the Guy On The Right

The Guy On The Right
By Kate Stewart

Blurb:
Strike One-My mother named me Theodore after her favorite chipmunk.
Not cool, Mom.
I‘ve spent most of my life answering to Teddy, because I couldn’t make Theo work.
Except for here. College. The place where all bets are off, and I’ve managed to redeem myself.

There’s only one problem, my new roommate, Troy, is football royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an Abercrombie shoot.
Doesn’t matter, I cook a mean breakfast for his panty parade, and we get along well.

And anyway, this year I got the girl. And she’s perfect.
That’s right. Theodore Houseman, former band geek, now marching band rock star has finally landed the girl of his dreams.
Everything is perfect.
That is, until Troy takes a good look at her.
I’m not going down without a fight. As a matter of fact, I’m not going down at all. As glorious as these days may be for my all-star roommate, Laney is my end game.
I may not know much about play strategy, but I’ve been the good guy my whole life. I’ve been listening and I know exactly what women want. Framed in a picture standing next to me, Troy may seem like Mr. Perfect, but he’s underestimating the guy on the right.

Spoiler alert: In this story, the underdog is going to win.

Review:
Theo is an underdog. He has three older sisters, named after Theodore the chipmunk, a good guy, and is part of the school matching band. His roommate is none other than Troy - football royalty. All the girls want to get with him. But when Theo meets Laney, - they couldn't be more different - yet she is the girl that he wants. She is endgame for him. So what happens when Troy directs his attention her way?

Theo has felt like an underdog his whole life, always over looked for guys like Troy- who seemingly have it all. But when Theo first meets Laney, he knows that this is the girl he wants, and does everything he can to try to seal the deal. Even if it means being her friend first.
Laney just got out of yet another bad relationship, and isn't ready to jump back into a new one. But she can't deny that her and Theo didn't click on some level when they first met. They instantly become friends. As their attraction for one another grows they need to decide if they will be willing to risk their friendship in order to persue the attraction. And what happens when Laney lays eyes on Troy, who is every bit the guy she normally goes after?
Theo is usually level headed. In the school marching band. Comes from a socialite family. Has three older sisters, listens and knows what women want. Laney is one of the most indecisive people he has ever met. She's a whole lot of country. She has three and a half jobs, and has a gypsy heart. She doesn't know where she wants to go, but she knows the moment she graduates she's leaving town. Where Theo has been in love, and got his heart broken, Laney has never been in love and only said those words out of obligation. They couldn't be more different if they tried.

This book brought on some laughs, and some drama. If you like New Adult/Collage romances then you definitely need to grab this book. It's a whole different side from Kate Stewart that we haven't seen before in her other novels. I enjoyed reading Theo and Laney's story, relating to these characters. They were more than just funny, or bringing drama- but they were real. And that is something that connects all of Kate's books together. The realness. The feelings. Something that you can connect to and feel apart of. 4⭐ out of 5⭐.

Blog Tour: Call Of Night

Call of Night, Book #3 in the paranormal romance Thorne Hill series by Emily Goodwin is LIVE!

True love never dies.

Not even when those around me are trying to kill it. With vampire bounty hunters still out for me, having the Grand Coven accuse me of treason against witches is the last thing I need. No one should tell me who I can and cannot love.

Determined not to let anyone or anything get in our way, Lucas and I decide to lay low for a while and let everything blow over with my coven while Lucas hunts for the vampires who tried to kidnap me. But things, of course, don’t go according to plan, and when I stumble upon an ancient evil force hiding out in the underground of Chicago, we realize our forbidden romance is the least of our worries.

As we search for a way to defeat unbeatable odds, I start to discover that things aren’t what they seem…including my very existence.

Excerpt:

I’m on my second glass of wine when Lucas pulls into the driveway. He parks his black Mercedes in the driveway and gets out, moving with vampire speed up to the front porch.
“What’s that smell?” he asks, making a face.
“Lavender, lemon, and eucalyptus oil.” I motion to the diffuser I have on the porch next to me. “It keeps mosquitoes away. You don’t like it?”
     “It’s very strong.”
I look into my wine glass for bugs. I don’t see any, and I’m getting tipsy enough not to care as long as I drink them down fast enough. Finishing the last bit of wine, I set my glass down and get up. “Who has a stronger sense of smell: a vampire or a German Shepherd.”
     “The dog, thankfully.”
     “Really?”
“Yes, though really, I’m glad. The world smells enough as it is.”
“True, and I’m glad too because I do human things in the bathroom occasionally.”
Lucas laughs. “I know you’re alive, my love.” He picks me up and kisses me, pressing my back against the front door. I called him when the trial was over, letting him know to come over and not to worry about finding BBQ Callie in the yard. Then I hung up and started drinking away my problems.
It’s a terrible coping mechanism, and one that I started way too young. We all have our vices, and I know this will catch up to me sooner or later.
“How drunk do I have to be for you to get drunk too?”  I ask between kisses.
“It depends.” Lucas draws his fangs and grazes them over my flesh.
     “On what?”
“On how much I take from you.” He stops kissing me and looks in my eyes. “I won’t take too much. I love you, Callie Martin, and I will never hurt you.”
     “Anne.”
     “Anne?”
“It’s my middle name. Callista Anne Martin.”
“Martin is your father’s last name.”
“I know.” I feel like I weigh nothing at all as Lucas easily holds me up. “But it’s mine too.”
“For now.” Lucas doesn’t give me a second to think. He kisses me hard again, tongue entering my mouth. Heat rushes through me and I don’t have time to process what he just said.
“Let’s go inside.” I grab the hem of his shirt and inch it up. No one from the coven has reason to go by my house tonight, and it’s far enough away from the road it would be impossible to sense that Lucas was a vampire even if someone did drive by. Still…fuck. I hate this.
Moving with vampire speed, Lucas carries me in and lays me down on the couch. I curl my legs up around him and we go right back to where we left off.
“I should…” I start, trailing off as Lucas bunches up my dress. “Put an extra—ohhh.” He slides his hand up my thigh and sweeps his fingers over my clit. “Wa..warding on…on…the house.”
“Are you expecting more demons?” His fingers slip under my panties. “I’ll kill them just for interrupting us.”
     “Not demons, but witches.”
Lucas stops stroking me. “Why are you warding against witches?”
My eyes fall shut and suddenly I can’t breathe. Lucas moves off of me and I get up, going into the kitchen for more wine.
“I thought the trial went well.” Lucas watches me forgo a wine glass and put the bottle to my lips. “Yet you’re drinking like you want to forget something.”

Review: Forever & Never

Forever & Never
Magnolia Cove series
Ella Fields

Blurb:
Lars Bradby was supposed to be my forever.

That was before we found out he would become a father at the tender age of eighteen.
For years, he’d watched me.

For months, he’d wanted me.

For weeks, he’d chased me.
Relentless and infuriating, he turned my stubborn heart into something pliable and weak.

Sly and honest, he worked his way into my life as though he’d always planned to be the focal point of it.
In love and naive, even when our future seemed bleak, I believed in us.

Heartbroken and desperate, I tore my bleeding heart from my chest, wanting only the best for him.
In doing so, our forever wasn’t just interrupted. It was chased away with one irreversible decision after another.

And now, we could no longer see it beneath the heaping piles of debris we’d left in our wake.

Review:
Lars watched Daphne for years. Wanted her for months. Chased for her weeks. He slowly weaked her stubborn heart working his way into her life. He was suppose to be her forever. Until he found out he was going to become a father at eighteen. Daphne did the only thing she thought was right, breaking Lars' heart, and her own, only wanting the best for him, and his baby. Their forever was interrupted, chased away by one irreversible decision after another. Could Lars and Daphne find their way back to each other, or was their love story doomed from the start?

I adored Lars and Daphne's story. Lars was artistic, and at Magnolia Cove prep on scholarship. Daphne hadn't given him the time of day until recently. She knew better. She guarded her heart from those that could destroy it- and Lars definitely was dangerous. Neither one had a perfect life- but Lars wanted to find perfect in each other. Daphne stubbornly kept closed off, until she finally began falling for Lars too, only to find out, he got another girl pregnant. Now, Daphne must decide if she's going to stick around, or step back to give Lars a chance- without her. Both made some immature mistakes- which being still in high school is understandable. I enjoyed reading this book, and the high school dynamics and drama. If you like novels filled high school drama then you will enjoy this book! 4⭐ out of 5⭐

Review:

I don't even know where to begin with this book- but I definitely needed it. It is book 3 in the Thorne Hill series and YES you do need to read book 1 & 2 first.

This book follows Callie- who is a powerful witch - immediately after the events of book 2, of Callie being accused of Treason, and being threatened by vampire bounty hunters. It seems both sides are trying to stop Lucas & Callie's relationship- it's against both vampire and witch law for vampires and witches to be friends- let alone date. Witches and Vampires have been sworn enemies for thousands of years. Their forbidden romance can lead to death- but isn't the only threat lurking near by. Callie realizes not everything- including her very existance- is what it seems.

I LOVED this book! I loved coming back to Thorne Hill and down right adore these characters! I read this book in one sitting and still want- and need more! I cannot wait to find out what happens next with these characters and in this story. Coming back to Thorne Hill and these beloved characters is like coming home. Callie is a badass witch, and Lucas is a ancient vampire- and it seems they have more threats closing in on every side of them then even they know what to do with. But even with all the threats- nothing will get between Callie and Lucas. Not the vampires, witches or even demons. But this threat may be bigger than all three. I loved every minute of this book, these characters and this story! And cannot wait for more! 5 amazing ⭐ out of 5⭐
