Release Blitz: the Pickup

Title: The Pickup
Series: Imperfect Love Book 1
Author: Nikki Ash
Genre: Sports Romance Standalone
Release Date: February 7, 2019

Somebody once said we don’t decide who we love. The world decides for us. But I disagree.

I believe love is a decision.
Who we love, how we love.
It’s in our control–in our hands.
I grew up having no clue about the true meaning of love. Money. Cars. Houses. Status. Fame. That’s what love means to the people around me.
It wasn’t until the woman I picked up in a bar came back into my life and showed me love can be so much more.
So, what’s the problem?
The woman I’m falling in love with believes in fairytales. She compares everything to a storybook and wants the happily-ever-after.
So while she’s stuck on recreating stories that have already been told, page by page, I’m showing her it’s time we write our own book.
Nobody ever said the journey of falling in love would be easy, just that it would be worth it.

Nick grew up with his parents who instill money is everything. Money can buy happiness, status, and relationships. He didn't know what the meaning of love was.
Until he has a one night stand and wants more. But when she ups and leaves with no way of contacting her the next morning, and the NFL and his parents wanting him to settle down with his ways before being signed by a new team, him and his childhood friend Celeste, make good on their pact, to marry when Nick becomes 30. Until his one night stand comes back in a big way. She believes in love and happily ever afters. She shows Nick that love can be so much more than just money, cars and houses. Will Nick lay it out on the line for the possibility of love, or will he end up marrying Celeste?
So first, let me say sports romances are hit or miss with me. I haven't found any I absolutely love, and not for lack of trying. I just don't get into them as much as I could while reading. But I was in love with this cover and blurb and decided to give it a try.
It took me until just under 40% of the book before I got into it. Now, I am a mood reader, and don't know if it was just because I wasn't in the mood but I had put it down for a couple days before picking it back up to finish and it went a lot smoother for me.
I liked seeing the growth in Nick. Going from how he started until how he ended up. Seeing his personal growth and what he learned along the way. And the journey between Nick and the main female was interesting to watch unfold.  Some of the characters were fun, and some I had wanted to punch right in the face. Overall, it was a good read- and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes sports romances!! 3.5⭐ out of 5⭐.
