Review: the Moth and the Flame

Title: the Moth and the Flame
Series: When Rivals Play
Author: BB Reid

THE FLAME
Here lies Louchana Valentine. She was a homeless, orphaned virgin.
I never cared what my gravestone would say until I landed in deep with a powerful gangster. Lucky for me, my best friend happens to be ruthless too. I should feel guilty that he’s forced to turn on the man who’s been a father to him. Except I’ve always known that Wren’s soul wasn’t as black as he claimed.
He was good.
He was beautiful.
He was mine.
He just didn’t know it yet.
And with Wren keeping me safe, I’ve got time left to rewrite the end of my story. But if he has his way, virgin is already carved in stone.
THE MOTH
I’ve never known anyone as alluring as Lou. Or as frustrating. Since the night she saved my life and stole my wallet for her troubles, I couldn’t stay away.
She became my onus.
My light.
My…anyway.
With nowhere to run, I’m forced to trust someone I never expected. At least with Lou safe in Blackwood Keep—far away from me—I’ll die with my conscience intact. Because she no longer looks at me with friendship in her eyes. Those iridescent blues shine with a different need entirely, and I’ve never been able to deny her.
The Moth and the Flame returns to the world of Blackwood Keep, rival gangs, and deliciously flawed yet completely addicting characters! This second installment in the When Rivals Play series is a continuation of the events that occurred in The Peer and the Puppet. Content suitable for ages 18+.

Louchana was a frequent run away from her foster home. She preferred keeping most people at arm's length, never letting them too close for fear of histroy repeating itself. So she had no idea what to expect when Wren came barreling into her life. He was grumpy, hard and cold, and a member of Exiled, definitely someone that Louchana should get mixed up with. But she wasn't one to play by the rules... And now she may have to pay the price with her life...
I loved reading Lou and When's story and getting back into Blackwood Keep and seeing all the characters from the Peer and the Puppet. Although this book follows a different couple you MUST read them in order since it all follows the same story line.
Lou was hardened by her past, and was reluctant to let people in. She preferred being on her own. Until Wren showed up in her life. They both needed somebody they could lean on, quickly becoming best friends, but both wanting so much more. But Wren wouldn't let them cross the line. Wren was bad, and didn't deserve Lou. But he didn't want anyone else to have her either. So what happens when two best friends - who have been toeing the line of friendship,  have their lines of friendship beginning to blur? And when Lou lands herself in trouble will they be able to get away unscathed? When Rivals Play series is addicting. Filled with drama, suspense, angst, danger and so much more, you will not want to put down these books after you pick them up! I cannot wait to read more from Blackwood Keep, and all of these characters and story! I need to know what happens next. 4.5 ⭐ out of 5⭐
