Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
Review:
So I have had a serious book hangover for the past couple weeks, and nothing was pulling me out. I received a copy of this book for Christmas, and it was something I couldn't put down. I fell in love with the fey world, and the characters.
"Instead of being afraid, I could become something to fear."
Jude is a moral child swept away to the land of fey, after her parents were murdered. Ten years later, all she wants is to belong and find her own place among them, instead of being beneath them. But of course, every wish and promise among the fairies, comes with a price.
Carden is a faerie prince, who wants nothing to do with the crown, and even less to do with Jude. Jude devises a plan to make sure a more right King sits apon the throne, but at what cost?
This book was filled with a wonderous world of magic, faeries, decite, and betrayal. From wicked royalty to mortals who they think so little of. I fell in love with the world in which they live and the characters- most of all Carden. It was such a great read, and the perfect way to ring in 2019. If you love the world of Shadowhunters or the Grishaverse or Prythain then you will surely love this. 5⭐ out of 5⭐.
